Philipp Stutz

Philipp Stutz is a PhD Researcher in the Research Centre for Migration, Diversity and Justice at the Brussels School of Governance. Philipp holds a MA in Political Science with a focus on European Studies and International Relations from the LMU Munich, Germany, and a BA in Political Science and English from the University of Tuebingen, Germany. During his Bachelor, he spent an exchange semester as an Erasmus student at the University of Leeds, UK. Previously, Philipp did internships with a Member of the European Parliament and at the Institute for European Politics in Berlin, where he conducted research on EU migration policy and the perception of migration policy in Germany. Moreover, he was Research Assistant at the Technical University Munich.

Philipp's research interests include EU migration policy tools, EU migration cooperation, externalisation, immigration to Germany, national discourses on migration and the influence of right-wing, populist parties. His PhD thesis focuses on EU migration cooperation with third countries. He looks at the EU migration tools that are applied diversely in the European neighbourhood. Also, his empirical-based comparative study sheds light on the question of efficiency of EU migration policy. In doing so, he tries to gain a better understanding of migration cooperation in particular and EU cooperation with third countries in general and establish why EU migration policy is not able to prevent and solve the migration crisis.
