
Joost Pauwelyn

Joost Pauwelyn is a Visiting Professor in the Research Centre 3E (Environment, Economy and Energy) of the Brussels School of Governance.
Joost Pauwelyn is Professor of International Law at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, where he is also the Head of the International Law Department and Co-Director of the Centre for Trade and Economic Integration.
Joost received degrees from the Universities of Namur, Leuven, Oxford and Neuchâtel.
He teaches, researches and practices in the field of international economic law, in particular, international trade and investment law.
He is the Founding President of TradeLab and Founding Co-Director of the Geneva Trade Platform. In 2020, he was appointed to the WTO’s pool of MPIA appeal arbitrators.
Joost was previously the Murase Visiting Professor of Law at Georgetown University (2014-2021), a tenured professor at Duke Law School, served as Senior Advisor with King & Spalding and as legal officer at the WTO. From 2015 to 2020, he was Co-Editor in Chief of the Journal of International Economic Law.
