Ernest Mathijs is an Adjunct Professor in Communication at the Brussels School of Governance, who specializes in European film and media audiences.
Ernest holds a PhD from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He is a Professor of Cinema and Media Studies at the University of British Columbia, in Vancouver, Canada, and a Guest Professor at the RITCS School of Arts in Brussels (and before that he was a Senior Lecturer at Aberystwyth University in Wales). Ernest's core course-related research is on topics in European film, on which he co-teaches with Wouter Hessels. The research focuses on issues of representation, integration, immigration and identity in Brussels and Europe, aiming for a profound understanding of the mechanisms that inform and challenge cultural policy.
