Iris Abraham
Lecturer
Prof. Iris Abraham is a Lecturer in Middle Eastern Studies at the Brussels School of Governance at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and the Communications & Fundamental Rights Adviser at the Cabinet of Vice President Dubravka Šuica (Democracy & Demography at the European Commission). She obtained her Master degrees in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University in Boston.
Her research interests include peacebuilding and reconciliation in divided societies, including Lebanon and Syria, the Middle East peace process and EU-Middle East diplomacy, political Islam, UN Peacekeeping, multilateralism, human and children’s rights, and media and violent conflict. Previously, Ms Abraham has worked on the Syria crisis response at the European Commission. Her previous experience includes work at UN HQ in New York, UN peacekeeping in Haiti, Al Jazeera English, euronews, academia and government agencies. At the Vrije Universiteit Brussel Ms Abraham teaches the courses ‘The role of Media in Conflict and Peacebuilding’ and ‘Introduction to the History and Politics of the Modern Middle East’.
