Is Europe serious about the Indo-Pacific? After the recent adoption of Indo-Pacific strategies in France, Germany and the Netherlands, the European Union is now set to adopt its own concept for a region that has become increasingly important for Europe’s prosperity and security. The Indo-Pacific is the second-largest destination of EU exports. It is also the epicentre of Sino-American competition, and thus central to the future of the multilateral order. Last but not least, the region is home to some of the EU’s most dynamic economic and strategic partners. What are the EU’s strategic objectives and priorities in the Indo-pacific? How does the EU’s emerging Indo-Pacific strategy relate to the increasingly complicated EU-China relationship? And how will the EU coordinate its Indo-Pacific strategy with other partners that have recently revised their approaches to the region, including the US and the UK?
